Getting the Most Out of Your Gallium Iodide Lamps
If you’re working with PCB fabrication, you know the struggle of getting your photoresists to cure just right. That’s where gallium iodide lamps come in. They aren’t your average mercury tubes. We’ve tweaked the chemistry to hit those specific UV wavelengths that high-resolution circuitry actually needs. The secret is in the spectrum. We designed these lamps to punch through thick layers of photoresist without messing up the substrate underneath. It gives you a much tighter focal point. Why does that matter? Because it stops that annoying undercutting during etching. Now, you can go with higher wattage to push more boards through the line, but keep an eye on your conveyor speed. If the boards move too slowly, you’re going to scorch them. It’s a balancing act. Keeping things cool (and intact) These tubes are made from high-purity quartz so the glass doesn’t soak up the UV light it’s supposed to be emitting. We also beefed up the end-caps to make sure no gas leaks out when the pressure climbs. But here is the thing: these lamps runhot. They have to, just to keep the gallium in a vapor state. Make sure your housing is vented properly. If a cooling fan dies, your tube is going to burn out fast. And please, keep the quartz sleeves clean. A little bit of dust might seem harmless, but it creates hotspots that can crack the glass. Not a fun day for anyone. Perfect for the smaller shops If you aren’t running a massive factory, you probably don’t want to rip out your entire electrical system just to upgrade your lights. We made these as drop-in replacements. They fit right into most existing UV tunnels and work with standard industrial power grids. You won’t need a total ballast overhaul or a pricey electrical upgrade. You might lose a bit of the extreme lifespan you’d see in a giant industrial array, but you gain a footprint that actually fits in a custom curing station. It means you can switch between different PCB batches without having to swap out your entire rig. It just works.
