In a food line, one hotspot of microbial contamination can shut you down and take your brand reputation with it. Conventional cleaning still leaves room for tough spores and biofilm to hang on. The practical fix is high-penetration UVC germicidal lamps, built to deliver a repeatable lethal dose across surfaces and through air streams. What matters under the hood We run low-pressure mercury vapor lamps, tuned to the primary 254nm line. That wavelength hits microbial DNA and RNA and stops replication. Spec-wise, we call for a minimum peak irradiance of 120 μW/cm² at 1 meter. That translates to a delivered dose over 100 mJ/cm² in a single pass — enough for a ≥3 log reduction across bacteria, viruses, and molds. The quartz sleeve is doped to cut off the 185nm ozone-producing line, so it stays clean for direct food-contact zones. Reflector geometry is set to keep about 90% of the power density in the target field, so you don’t throw energy away. Why this fits food lines Food runs fast. You need disinfection that keeps up and leaves no chemical residue. UVC drops right in above conveyors or into HVAC ducts for continuous, non-contact sterilization. With a validated 99.9% broad-spectrum kill rate, you can hit HACCP targets without throttling throughput. Power draw is low — typically 30–60W per lamp — and lamp life is rated to 9,000 hours, holding output above 80% of initial over the full curve. Fewer maintenance windows, fewer spares on the shelf. The shop-floor details you can’t skip UVC intensity drops off with the inverse square law, so distance and alignment matter. Shadows from equipment or product geometry will cut your effective dose. We can specify mounting distances and beam profiles, but you still need to map irradiance across the entire target area with a calibrated radiometer. Lamp output also dips as temperature changes, so control ambient conditions and airflow to keep performance where it’s rated. And confirm compatibility with existing fixtures and power supplies — mismatched connectors and ballasts will trip you up fast.
